Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
