Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from spring of 2023.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to get a championship is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a third set.

He saved four early-game chances in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
